Alston's Q&A for Haircare

Are Brazilian Keratin Treatments safe?

After extensive research, Tribeca beleives that "BKTs" are unsafe, both for the stylist and client. Though the affect on the hair is substantial and seemingly beneficial, the safety risks are too costly. These treatments use 2% or more of formaldehyde, which is a known carcinogen. The FDA approved amount in cosmetological substances is .2%. Even formaldehyde free formulas are carcinogenic, because they feature carcinogenic ether instead. We believe the off gassing of these chemicals, known for the irritation to mucous membranes, eyes, nose and throat are dangerous. We will not perform these services because we do not believe the advantages outweigh the potential dangers. For further information consult with the FDA and their findings.

Thanks!
